Paper People Theatre

We are a multi-disciplinary ensemble of three artists based in West Yorkshire, Manchester and London. Our work is visually rich, vibrant and always centered around human interactions and relationships.

We explore these through movement, song, dance, text and the interplay between us as performers and our fabricated landscape.

We came together as a company through a love of formalist theater, our work is often driven by the idea of a certain aesthetic or place and by the urge to explore the way the body can interact with the space created.

Our process of creating the work usually starts by establishing a relationship – whether this is performer to performer or performer to an object or space.

Hannah Mook

Hannah Mook is a contemporary performance maker from the deepest darkest depths of Yorkshire.

Her work explores the interplay between a performers body and what surrounds them. Mook loves to play with the formal and visual aspects of theatre and sees her work like a painting in a gallery . . . ‘You can tell me what it means too!’

Her work has included residencies and performances with The Royal Exchange Manchester, Vaults London, Lancaster Arts, Stage at Leeds, The Hopbarn, and various basements and fields.

A million years ago, Mook studied Theatre and Performance Practice at Lancaster Uni (BAhons) and Uni of Lincoln (MA).

Lowri Jones

Lowri Jones is a Welsh performance artist living and working in the North West of England. Her background is in live art and contemporary dance and Lowri is a little bit obsessed with how the impact of the moving body on the performance space can tell a story and leave its mark. Lowri loves the visual and physical aspects of performance art and dance and loves when the audience makes all sorts of connections that she couldn’t see! ‘I am constantly surprised by what ideas are sparked by the audience by my work….some are so weird I love it’

Before forming Paper People Theatre she worked largely as a solo artist performing at amongst others The Nuffield Theatre, The Tate Modern, Lancaster Arts and Contact, as well as lots of pubs, clubs and rooms! As well as collabing and supporting lots of other artists!

Back in the day (date not included please) Lowri studied Theatre Studies and English at Lancaster University where she also completed a Masters in Professional Contemporary Arts Practice.
